Yowell Meadow Park - Memorial Garden
Calfee Garden Club’s primary community outreach, and the one of which we are most proud, is the Memorial Garden at Yowell Meadow Park - the first public park in Culpeper, VA. Calfee Garden Club designed and created this beautiful garden for the park which opened June 4, 1989. The plants are primarily native. The design of the garden is continually changing. Each spring the garden is cleaned weeded and new planting are added. Each fall the garden is cleaned and trimmed, weeded and prepared for the winters rest. Every member of Calfee takes an active part in maintaining the garden throughout the year.
Culpeper United Methodist Church Preschool
Our Youth program is an interactive project with the preschoolers at the Culpeper United Methodist Church. The desire is to foster a love for our environment and an interest in gardening. This is done through hands-on activities such as arts and crafts, readings, and germinating and planting seeds.
This year the children created two projects. The first was a leafy wreath. In the second project, they glued leaves for hair onto a picture of themselves. Many of our members look forward to helping with the preschool projects each year. The adults enjoy these projects as much as the children.
Hands-on activities
Calfee Garden Club works with local organizations to provide floral arrangements and other assistance as needed to promote local events.
An Online Presence
Each year Calfee Garden Club updates and further develops our social media and online presence, detailing the history and current activities of the club. Our website contains information on speakers, meetings, field trips, and ways you can join.
